For instance, Dr. Kennington evaluates all his patients for TMJ (temporomandibular joint) dysfunction. This disorder of the jaw and its disc-like cartilage often devastates sufferers with headaches, ear pain, premature enamel wear and clicking and popping noises when opening and closing the mouth. Dr. Kennington recommends some lifestyle changes for his TMJ patients but also uses modern oral appliance therapy to alleviate symptoms. Worn at night, these customized acrylic mouthguards position the jaw correctly, alleviate teeth clenching and cushion the teeth.
Another advanced service at Cowlitz River Dental is dental implants. These amazing prosthetics replace missing teeth from root to crown. He inputs the information into the chairside milling machine and crafts a lifelike crown from a solid block of ceramic. The entire process takes place as the patient watches!
Finally, to ease complex procedures and relieve dental anxiety, Dr. Kennington offers sedation dentistry. Depending on the treatment and patient need/preference, the dentist delivers fully monitored nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral conscious sedation (tranquilizers in pill form) and IV (intravenous) conscious sedation for more complex procedures.
