woman at dentistThere may come a time when your dentist recommends that an oral surgery is in your best interest, such as a tooth extraction, wisdom tooth removal, or bone grafting. If you find yourself in this position, you need someone who has extensive training and education to complete the procedure. Although Dr. L. Blaine Kennington is not a specialist or an oral surgeon, he has the training and experience necessary to perform many surgeries that a variety of dental specialists provide. His unique and vast skillset allows him to serve patients’ needs extensively.

Choose a Highly-Trained Dentist

When oral surgery is needed to treat a complex issue, such as an impacted wisdom tooth or to repair degeneration of the jawbone, a high level of experience is needed. Dr. Kennington will carefully evaluate your needs and determine when you need to be referred to a specialist or if he can perform the surgery himself. Due to his extensive continued education, he can do many of the same procedures as a specialist, including:

Complex Extractions: A tooth that has suffered significant damage, such as severe decay or a break below the gum line, may require a surgical extraction. The gum tissue will need to be opened to gain complete access to it. Dr. Kennington can safely and effectively remove the compromised tooth to rehabilitate your dental health.

Impacted Wisdom Teeth: A partially or fully impacted wisdom tooth it is not fully visible above the gum tissue, which means a simple extraction is not an option. Dr. Kennington can carefully extract it to help prevent damage to the supporting structures, adjacent teeth, or nerves to promote a successful recovery.

Bone Grafting: To create a solid base to support dental implants, bone grafting may be necessary to improve a thinned or weakened jawbone. Dr. Kennington can carefully graft bone to the jaw to foster successful osseointegration to help promote the longevity of dental implant posts.

Dental Implant Placement: The long-term success of dental implants largely relies on their correct placement. You need a dentist who has experience with the complexity of the procedure. Dr. Kennington can precisely place the posts through a carefully crafted treatment plan by evaluating all influencing factors, such as the size and density of the jawbone.

Frenectomy: Restricted movement of the tongue or lip that is caused by tight or thick tissue requires a surgical intervention, known as a frenectomy. A scalpel or laser is used to cut the tissue to improve the movement of the tongue or lip. Dr. Kennington can carefully correct the issue while keeping aesthetics in mind.

Choose Experience and Advanced Education

If you need oral surgery, you will be in good hands with Dr. Kennington. He has the experience and advanced education needed to perform an array of procedures.
