Our Patients Love Us

“Not all dentists are the same!! What a treasure Dr. Kennington is! The best skilled dentist I have ever been to and will not go anywhere else. I have trusted him for over ten years now for all of my dental work. His commitment to detail, his remarkable knowledge about all things "dentistry" and the amazing work he performs makes him the best choice. If you want a great smile and a dentist who really cares ”

Lisa K. Longview, WA

“I was in a skydiving accident and lost a couple of my front teeth, everything else about my mouth looking very mangled. My teeth now look absolutely amazing! Being a 21-year-old does not allow for me to have the most money in the world, but Dr. Kennington's staff helped me more than I deserve. Dr. Kennington is one of the nicest humans, let alone doctor, that I have ever met. He knows exactly what he is doing and will even educate anyone that has any questions about what procedures he is doing. The music in the office is amazing as well! I would recommend Dr. Kennington to anyone that is looking for a dentist.”

Ty L. Winlock, WA

“Dr. Kennington is a life changer for the best. His skilled artistic approach to dentistry, where everything must meet his high expectations of perfection is beyond words. His supportive staff, their kindness, especially dealing with someone who has high dental anxieties is greatly appreciated. You can't go wrong with this practice, or Dr. Kennington!”

Frequently Asked Questions

At Cowlitz River Dental, Dr. Kennington and our team want you to feel confident choosing a dental practice where you can feel at home. Knowing that you’re receiving exceptional dental care is important, so when it comes to finding the answers to some of your most frequently asked questions, we’re here to help. Please take a few moments to review the information provided below and call us when you’re ready to schedule an appointment.

How do I find the best place to get dental work done?

Each person has certain criteria for choosing a dental practice. What you believe to be important may not be what someone else finds essential. This is why you must ask yourself what it is that you value most from a dentist’s office. Do you prefer a specialist or general dentist? Do you want a dentist who takes your dental insurance? Are you looking for someone who can see your entire family? Is it necessary that they use advanced technology? Is it important that you do not require a referral for more complex dental treatments?

Once you identify the answers to these questions, you can narrow down your search and prepare to receive the kind of dental care you deserve.

How do I get emergency dental care?

Facing a sudden dental injury can be alarming, which is why it’s important that you seek help from a dentist who provides emergency dental care. To give your smile the best chance, you must first call to schedule an appointment. A team member will determine how quickly you should come in for treatment as well as offer recommendations to help you take care of your smile while waiting.

You can expect your dentist to examine your smile and make necessary suggestions regarding treatment. After completing a plan, you will decide if you want to proceed with restorative care, which your dentist will deliver.

What do you do if you can’t afford a dentist?

Dental insurance is the most convenient and cost-effective way to receive dental care, but if you are not enrolled in a private plan, you will need to inquire about alternative payment options. Many dentists offer flexible financing and/or an in-house membership plan – both of which make it easy to receive the same high-quality care without incurring a large bill.

At Cowlitz River Dental, Dr. Kennington is pleased to provide patients with the ability to apply for flexible financing through CareCredit. This third-party company helps you to stay within budget while paying off the cost of your care over time.

What level of education is required to be a dentist?

Someone who wants to become a dentist must recognize that much schooling and hands-on training are required. An undergraduate degree from an accredited university is required, and having high scores in both math and science is helpful. It is then necessary to enroll in an accredited dental school to earn a DMD or DDS, which typically takes three years to complete.

After obtaining a degree, a person can then choose to practice general dentistry or pursue a specialization. The American Dental Association (ADA) recognizes 12 different specialties, each requiring additional schooling and training.

When finished, it is required that dentists continue to pursue a certain number of continuing education hours each year to maintain their licensure.
