General and Preventive Dentistry
No matter how often you see your physician, you may still be unable to avoid illness. However, when you see your Castle Rock dentist Dr. Kennington for regularly scheduled dental checkups, you may actually be able to prevent dental and oral health problems. At your six-month dental exam and cleaning, Dr. Kennington and his team pay very close attention to the condition of your teeth and gums. Beyond cleaning your teeth, we also check each one for early signs of tooth decay. Your teeth are probed for soft spots that may indicate demineralization. We also recommend having digital x-rays at least once a year so we can spot decay happening between teeth or just below the surface.
In addition to monitoring your teeth, we’ll also take a close look at your gums. Just as a house needs a strong foundation to remain stable, your teeth also need this. Gum tissue and the underlying bone structure are that foundation. However, gum disease that begins with the bacteria in plaque can quickly damage and destroy this supporting tissue. Cowlitz River Dental offers periodontal therapy to stop the advance of gum disease and restore oral health.
Dental Implants and Other Treatments
Experienced in implant dentistry, Dr. Kennington is able to restore patients’ functional and appealing smiles with lifelike dental implants. Whether you’ve lost just one tooth or many teeth, we can use dental implants to firmly secure a prosthetic tooth, bridge, or denture. Each implant is surgically placed in your jawbone to firmly hold a tooth restoration in place. The implant not only renews your smile, but also serves to stimulate healthy bone tissue growth so your jaw remains full and strong.
Other treatments available at Cowlitz River Dental include:
- CEREC One-Visit Crowns
- Oral Surgery, such as wisdom teeth removal
- Six Month Smiles
- Root Canal
- Gum Disease Therapy
- TMJ Therapy
What is TMJ? This is the abbreviated term for temporomandibular joint dysfunction. These joint are located on either side of your face just in front of your ears. Each joint hinges your lower jaw to your skull. For a variety of reasons, these joints can malfunction. As a result, you may notice any of the following symptoms:
- Pain in your jaw or ear
- A clicking or popping sound when you open or close your mouth
- Feeling as if your jaw is stuck or locked in place
- Difficulty chewing
- Fatigued facial muscles
Because teeth grinding is often a contributing factor of TMJ, Dr. Kennington can prescribe a custom-fitted night guard. This appliance separates your upper and lower teeth to prevent damage from grinding, and also reduces the stress on your jaw from unnatural pressure.
If you are one of the millions who have dental fear or anxiety, you no longer need to neglect your oral health. We offer three types of sedation dentistry: nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation and IV sedation. So, regardless of what type of dental treatment you need or your level of nervousness, we have the sedation dentistry that will relax you and allow us to take care of your teeth and gums.
